The River Way allows you to immerse yourself in a small and delightful community, embraced by the Vefsna salmon river. The hosts at Utpå Neset will greet you as you disembark from the train in Trofors and ensure a comfortable stay in the guesthouse. Here, you’ll reside simply and rurally, right by the riverbank, in the 160-year-old timber cabin, Bakarstuo. The hosts will treat you to delicious meals crafted from local ingredients while sharing stories of local history and the untamed nature in the area.
Do you want to experience one of Norway’s best salmon rivers? After your first meal in Bakarstuo, your hosts will take you on a quest for the unique thrill of hooking a large salmon. Before departure, we’ll dress according to the weather, purchase fishing permits for the day, and adjust the provided fishing gear. The hosts will provide a thorough introduction and individual instruction if desired, before the next hours are spent by the riverbank in pursuit of the evening’s catch.

Here, you’ll have the opportunity to witness untouched nature, explore inaccessible gorges, and feel the rush of adrenaline. Fear not, you’ll receive training and assistance from professional guides throughout the journey. Brave individuals of all ages can navigate wild rapids and enjoy the stunning surroundings. Prepare for a nature experience of the extraordinary.
Grane Bygdetun will provide you with a cultural journey, offering insights into the 17th and 18th centuries. During this tour, Helgeland Museum will take you back to rural society, showcasing the well-preserved buildings at the village museum and narrating how society functioned during that era. As you participate in the tour, you’ll also engage in the preparation of today’s lunch using a traditional ‘cooking pit.

Day 1

After finishing the activity, free time and a cozy dinner in Bakarstuo await you this evening.
Day 2
After breakfast at Utpå Neset, you will head out to chase the adrenaline with RiverNorth. The Vefsna River is perfect for rafting, with large, fun, and safe rapids. Fear not, you’ll receive training and assistance from professional guides throughout the journey. Brave individuals of all ages can navigate wild rapids and enjoy the stunning surroundings. Prepare for an extraordinary experience of nature.Your hotel hosts will pick you up and bring you back to the hotel when the activity has come to an end. Here, a cozy outdoor lunch is next up. You will have plenty of time on you own after lunch, where you can explore Trofors, some of the great hiking routes in the area or might as well try your luck with some more salmon fishing. Later on, dinner will be served in Bakarstuo, or outside if you wish to enjoy the good weather.
Day 3
After your last night and breakfast in Bakarstuo, you will check out of the hotel, and get ready for a historical adventure. Your hosts will transport you to your last activity for your stay in Trofors, a guided tour of Grane bygdetun. A local guide will show you the ancient buildings and equipment used in a farmer’s life back several hundred years ago. You will also be shown and participate in preparing your lunch, before you head out to the train station. The guide will make sure you get to the station in time, because the train doesn’t wait for anybody. -

Do you wish to combine packages in your journey?
1. Prepare which stops you want to include in your package tour. Check the duration of the packages so you don’t overlap. The River Way and The Mountain Way are 2 nights, the rest are only 1 night.
The train travels northbound, so the order of the stops is:
Trondheim – Trofors – Mosjøen – Bjerka – Mo i Rana – Lønsdal – Bodø2. Go to “Order”, the green button in the bottom right corner, choose the date you wish to start this package and amount of travelers. When combining multiple stops, it’s important to choose the correct “version” when adding the package to your cart. The “version” decides which transportation distance you will include for this package. After choosing the correct «version», add the package it to your cart.
3. All packages must have a “travel to”, meaning you must select the version that takes you to the activity. If you’re continuing to another stop/package from The River Way, you will book the train from Trofors to the next stop, in the next package when choosing the version. Navigate to the next package by scrolling down this page and clicking on the package you wish to explore.
4. Last stop? Once you’ve added the package to your cart, make sure to select the train journey from this stop, either to Bodø or back to Trondheim. This is added under “Edit package” in the checkout.
